Business leaders have been urged to view the country’s increasing environmental challenges as opportunities to innovate and adapt, driving the green transformation it urgently needs.
The President of Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), Dr. Clement Osei Amoako, said this in a keynote address at the 4th Chamber Business Awards in Accra September 27, 2024, adding that green growth demands a collective effort where businesses, government, communities and individuals unite to share knowledge, resources and expertise.
“Collaboration is key. No single entity can solve the complex environmental challenges we face. It is only through such collaboration that we can fully unlock the potential of adaptability and innovation. Our pursuit must transcend profit. We have a responsibility to protect and preserve the environment for future generations, ensuring that our businesses contribute to both economic prosperity and environmental sustainability,” he elaborated.
Additionally, he called for a collective effort in fighting the country’s illegal mining menace.
“We must acknowledge that illegal mining, or ‘galamsey’, is a major and pressing environmental challenge threatening our agricultural sector – the backbone of our economy – and the livelihoods of countless citizens.
“I urge each of you, in your respective capacities, to join the fight against this menace and other environmental threats. By embracing green opportunities, Ghana’s private sector can not only adapt to global trends, but also take a leading role in shaping a sustainable future.”
The Chamber Business Awards is a hallmark event celebrating outstanding businesses and individuals across the country who have demonstrated excellence in leadership, innovation and sustainable business practices.
It aims to shine a spotlight on the key role businesses play in driving the nation’s socio-economic growth, showcasing their entrepreneurial spirit and contribution to national development while awarding deserving businesses.
This year’s theme, ‘Adaptability and Innovation in a Green Economy through Collaboration’, reflects the global shift toward greener, more sustainable business practices.
The awards evaluation was conducted by a Technical Committee comprising experts from esteemed government and private sector institutions, including representatives from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ghana Revenue Authority, Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Environmental Protection Agency. The independent committee guarantees that each nominee is fairly assessed, reflecting the true excellence of Ghanaian business.
Since its inception, the Chamber Business Awards have earned a reputation for its credibility, transparency and integrity. A rigorous selection process ensures that nominees are evaluated solely on merit.
The magnificent event was held under the distinguished patronage of its Special Guest of Honour, His Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse.
