The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat and AFRICA24, Africa’s premier TV media group, have inked a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designed to enhance the Continental Free Trade Area and economic integration through a series of high-impact initiatives.
The MoU, signed at the AfCFTA Secretariat’s headquarters in Accra by Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of AfCFTA Secretariat, and Constant Nemale, Founder of Groupe AFRICA24, aims to implement three key actions: promote key projects in infrastructure, energy, industry, transport, logistics and new technologies across the continent, aiming to accelerate Africa’s development.
It aims to highlight the achievements of African commercial enterprises that align with AfCFTA’s objectives, raise awareness among citizens, young entrepreneurs and women about benefits and opportunities offered by the AfCFTA.
“This historic MoU with AFRICA24 highlights the crucial role of media in the continental free trade policy’s success,” said Mene. “With its extensive reach and leadership, AFRICA24 will help educate the continent’s citizens about AfCFTA’s priority objectives – particularly the establishment of an economic zone that benefits all African nations and people.”
The partnership will also see a creation of multimedia content to boost intra-African trade, mutual participation in AfCFTA events, co-organization of awards, summits, forums and sector-specific webinars, and the involvement of AfCFTA experts in content production. Additionally, the initiative will aggregate media efforts across the continent on this new platform.
Nemale expressed his commitment to the mission: “We are honoured to join the AfCFTA Secretariat in this historic agreement. Building on our MoU with the African Union and in collaboration with the Republic of Cameroon, AFRICA24 will develop premium content to drive Africa’s development.
“This partnership will amplify the positive impact of AfCFTA on the continent’s economic growth and integration, leveraging our leadership within the African Union of Broadcasting,” he added.
It is understood that the multi-year MoU represents a significant asset for both the AfCFTA Secretariat and AFRICA24, creating a platform for innovative and inclusive collaboration aimed at building a more integrated and prosperous Africa – in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
