The Chartered Institute of Insurance Ghana (CIIG), last week, held the third edition of the Ghana Insurance Excellence Awards in Accra. The awards, which ranks as the most coveted event on the annual calendar of Ghana’s insurance industry, attracted corporate chieftains of life and non-life primary underwriters, reinsurers, brokers and industry regulators, agents, specialist service providers – such as actuaries as well as representatives of the insuring public.
Altogether, awards were conferred across 18 delineated categories to individuals and institutions. Awardees were determined by an awards panel comprising of an elite grouping of distinguished insurance practitioners and people with deep expertise in the design and delivery of insurance products and services.
Speaking at the event, the President of CIIG, Solomon Lartey, warned of the growing complexities facing insurance companies in the country, noting that: “Some of the risks faced by insurers in challenging times like these are: increased claims and claims costs; increased fraudulent claims; and under-insurance due to inflation and exchange differentials”. However, he also identified the upside potentials facing insurance industry practitioners, asserting that “organizations that are able to show resilience and innovate in the midst of crisis would stand tall and provide shelters in the midst of turbulent storms for their clients”.
He pointed out that the latest CIIG award-winners count among such companies, adding that: “It is during the most trying times that the true impact of insurance of insurance becomes evident as it helps us recover, rebuild and renew”.
An enthused Elsie Adade, the incumbent CEO of the CIIG, asserted: “This event serves as a testament to the collective efforts that have propelled Ghana’s insurance sector to new heights of success and resilience.
“In the face of challenges and uncertainties, the insurance industry stands as a pillar of strength, providing the much-needed support and protection that underpins economic growth and stability. The CIIG Insurance Excellence Awards embodies our commitment to acknowledging endeavours of those who have continuously pushed the boundaries, delivering exceptional services and fostering a culture of trust among stakeholders.”
