The Krontihene of Akyem Asuom, Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III, has shed light on the emotions surrounding the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the recent presidential elections, particularly focusing on the reaction of Samira Bawumia, wife of NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In an interview with the media, Nana Boadi remarked on Samira Bawumia’s visible disappointment, highlighting her aspirations to become Ghana’s First Lady and her central role in the NPP campaign.
“Dr. Bawumia is not happy; he did his best and was desperate for the position,” Nana Boadi said. “But somebody else was even more unhappy—Samira. She was so desperate for the position.”
He noted that Samira’s active presence during the campaign reflected her desire to redefine the role of First Lady with her signature style and charisma.
“You know, our good old Auntie Rebecca [Akufo-Addo], she was not that outgoing, and so Samira was mostly at the forefront. She longed to be the First Lady,” he explained.
Nana Boadi added with a touch of humour: “If the NPP had won, she would have slayed a lot. ‘She will slay aaah Ghanaian ladies all go bore die.’”
The Krontihene suggested that Samira’s fashion-forward persona would have set trends and possibly sparked envy among many Ghanaian women.
