The police have intensified operations to arrest suspects who attacked three missionary Catholic Priests at Nkwanta in the Oti Region.
The incident reportedly took place on December 11, 2024.
According to a Police statement dated December 12, the priests were traveling with officials from the Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly, including the Municipal Engineer, to Chieso to inspect a plot of land.
They were using machinery from the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) for land clearing when they were confronted by local youth. But the youth in the town interpreted that to mean stealing the equipment. They were subsequently accosted by the youth who “man-handled them, leading to one of the priests sustaining injuries.
The police have vowed to ‘leave no stone unturned’ until they apprehend the suspects to face justice.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service says that over the past 24 hours no major incident has been recorded.
However upon a request from the electoral commission for maximum security for the Collation of the outstanding results from four constituencies in the eastern region, the police have moved to provide security at the Centre.
The Collation of results was removed from the original location in the Eastern Regional capital to the National Police Training School on Friday for Collation to continue.
This was announced at a media engagement at the Ghana Police Headquarters in Accra this morning.
According to the Head of Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, “We will also like to once again inform the public that all the 123 suspects that have been arrested in connection with various acts of lawlessness are being taken through the due process of the law. Four of the suspects that were arrested yesterday are also being processed accordingly. We wish to assure the people of Ghana that the police will continue to do our part to ensure their security, law and order across the country”.
