A new poll by Global InfoAnalytics shows the leader of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama (JDM) continues to lead in the race to replace President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo in 2025.
The polls reveal that Mr Mahama leads with 52%, whereas the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahmudu Bawumia (DMB) leads with 41.3%, Alan Kyeremanten (AKK), 2.3%, Nana K. Bediako (NKB), 4.1% and others 0.4%. Alan Kyeremanten, according to the poll is biggest gainer during the period as he improves in the Akan regions.
The poll shows that Dr Bawumia continues to lose support among floating voters. Only 11% of floating voters back DMB, 13% back Nana Bediako, 6% back Alan Kyeremanten and 69% now back Mahama. John Mahama also leads among first-time voters with 64%, Dr Bawumia 33% and Nana Bediako, 3%.
In the swing regions of Central, Western and Greater Accra, JDM leads with 59.4%, DMB, 33.8%, AKK, 2.4%, NKB, 4.3% and others 0.1%. Compared the previous week, JDM is up 5.5 percentage points while the rest lost ground.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia leads in three (3) out of the sixteen (16) regions while John Mahama currently leads in thirteen regions (13). The Economy, jobs and education are the three remaining concerns for voters. Economy and jobs remain stable at 75% and 69% respectively, voters concern for education has now elevated to nearly 52% from 46%.
The poll also suggests that 51% of voters say their economic condition has worsened compared to last year, 21% of voters say their economic condition has not changed while 28% say it has improved. 82% of voters say they have already made up their minds, 9% are likely to change their minds while 7% are neutral.
The survey also shows voters displeasure with how Nana Akufo Addo is doing his job as president.
The president’s approval rating took a nosedive compared to the previous week as only 28% approve of his performance and 65% disapprove, according to the polls. It also shows that with the exception of NPP voters, all other party affiliates disapprove the president.
The poll also shows that majority of voters in all the regions except Ashanti and North East region approve of the job performance of the president. In the Ashanti region, 54% of voters approved of the president’s performance compared to 38% who disapprove. In the North East, 50% of voters approve while 35% disapprove.
In the swing region of Central, 55% of voters disapprove of the performance of the president while 37% approve. In the Western region, 61% disapprove while 33% approve. In the Greater Accra, 68% disapprove while 29% approve.
62% of voters believe Ghana is headed in the wrong direction, 27% say it is headed in the right direction and 11% have no opinion.
