Prince Tagoe has cautioned Black Stars ahead of their crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan later today, citing concerns over the team’s work rate and focus.
Speaking to 3Sports in an exclusive interview, the former Ghanaian international acknowledged that the upcoming match will be a challenging encounter.
“To my opinion, it is going to be difficult. I don’t think we’re going to have it easy,” he admitted.
Tagoe’s concerns stem from Kwesi Appiah’s familiarity with the Ghanaian team, having previously served as the Black Stars’ head coach. Appiah’s knowledge of Ghana’s tactics and personnel could prove invaluable to Sudan.
“Looking at Kwesi Appiah being head coach before and being with the management of the FA, I think he has a lot of things he can talk to the Sudanese about us,” Tagoe noted.
To counter Appiah’s insider advantage, the former Hearts of Oak player emphasized the importance of focus and determination.
“All that we have to do is just to focus and make sure we are going in 100 percent.”
However, the player also highlighted a more pressing concern – the team’s lack of effort and involvement in games.
“We have good players, but I think our weak point is not involving ourselves in the game, not working more than what the fans expect from us.”
Tagoe believes that if each player can replicate even a fraction of their club form, Ghana would be unstoppable.
“If each of the players can play at least 35 percent the way they play outside, we will be winning all of our matches.”
This candid assessment underscores the need for increased commitment and teamwork within the Black Stars squad.
Black Stars are seeking to secure their 11th consecutive AFCON appearance. A win against Sudan later today would significantly boost their chances.
