In a significant move aimed at addressing long-standing administrative and developmental concerns, the Western Nzema Youth League (WNYL) has formally appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to delineate Cape Three Points, Princesstown, akatakyie and its surrounding areas from the Ahanta District.
This appeal, articulated through the influential voices of the good people Nzema Evalue was presented by Dr. Patrick Ekye Kwesie, the leader of the WNYL.
Cape Three Points, known for its strategic geographical location and rich natural resources, has been a focal point for both economic development and cultural identity for the Nzema people. However, the youth league argues that the current administrative boundaries have hindered the region’s potential for growth and self-determination. The WNYL believes that delineating Cape Three Points from the Ahanta District will empower local governance, enhance resource management, and foster a sense of community ownership among the residents.
Dr. Kwesie emphasized that the youth of Western Nzema are eager to participate actively in the development of their region. He stated, “We believe that by delineating Cape Three Points, we can create a more focused approach to governance that addresses the unique needs and aspirations of our people. This is not just about administrative boundaries; it is about ensuring that our voices are heard, and our resources are managed in a way that benefits us directly.”
The appeal is also rooted in the historical context of the region, where the Nzema people have long sought recognition and autonomy. Nzema Youth league has been a vocal advocate for the rights of the Nzema people, emphasizing the importance of cultural heritage and local governance. Their support for the WNYL’s appeal underscores the unity of purpose among the community’s leaders and youth.
“With the right administrative framework, Cape Three Points can become a hub for sustainable development, tourism, and investment,” he remarked.
The WNYL’s appeal to President Mahama is not merely a call for administrative change; it is a plea for recognition, empowerment, and a brighter future for the youth of Western Nzema. As the nation continues to grapple with issues of governance and development, the voices of the youth must be amplified, and their aspirations must be taken into account. The delineation of Cape Three Points from Ahanta could serve as a pivotal step towards achieving these goals, fostering a sense of pride and ownership among the Nzema people.
