The Accra Circuit Court 6 has granted a GHC20,000 bail with two sureties to 11 more Democracy Hub protesters, including Raphael Williams and Fanny Otoo.
In court on October 8, prosecution led by State Attorney Nana Akosua Kusi explained the absence of Fanny Otoo who had been sick and had been on admission since the commencement of the case.
“On the last adjourned date Fanny Otoo was absent but presented a medical report. I was informed he was discharged Thursday, October 3. Due to the conference that the judges attended we couldn’t bring him before court. He was brought to court on Monday, but we were informed that the Judge was on official assignment outside.
I’ve just been informed that he’s been rushed to the hospital again this afternoon, so we haven’t been able to bring him. When he’s discharged, we’ll put him before court for his plea to be taken,” she indicated to the court.
Additionally, she noted that she had filed disclosures which were yet to be served on the lawyers of the protesters. She therefore pleaded for a brief adjournment.
Lawyers of the protesters prayed to the court for their bail applications to be considered citing deteriorating health conditions of their clients.
The lawyers noted that another protester, an asthmatic had been shuffling in and out of the hospital due to failing health.
After considering the statements, presiding judge Kobina Obiri Yeboah granted a GHC20,000 bail with two sureties each for the protesters. They are to reappear before the court on October 14.
