In an address to party supporters in Amasaman Constituency, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), took a bold swipe at his main rival, former President John Dramani Mahama, ahead of the December 7 general elections.
Speaking passionately during his Greater Accra regional tour, Dr. Bawumia confidently asserted his track record and suitability for the presidency.
“I have not been president before. I am a vice president,” he began, setting the stage for a robust defense of his political achievements. He emphasized his extensive contributions in his current role, stating, “All the works I have done, I have done as vice president. I have implemented 33 different policies that are currently working.”
In a direct critique of Mahama’s tenure, Bawumia claimed, “For the former president, he cannot even show a single policy he championed.” This sharp contrast, he argued, highlights his own accomplishments and readiness for higher office. “This means that I have passed as a vice president. Promote me to do the work of a president. Give me the steer because I have passed as a vice president.”
Bawumia’s remarks were clearly aimed at showcasing his experience and readiness for the presidency, while simultaneously questioning the effectiveness and legacy of Mahama’s previous administration. The Vice President’s speech not only reinforced his commitment to his party’s vision but also sought to rally support by contrasting his achievements with those of his rival.
As the campaign intensifies, Bawumia’s bold statements underscore the competitive nature of the race and set the stage for a contentious battle leading up to the elections.
