Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has clinched the 2023-24 Premier League Golden Boot, awarded to the leading scorer in England’s top flight.
Haaland concluded the season with 27 goals, finishing five goals ahead of his nearest rival, Cole Palmer. Haaland is the first player to win the Golden Boot outright in consecutive seasons since Tottenham’s Harry Kane, who scored 25 goals in 2015-16 and followed up with 29 in 2016-17.
Since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund for £51.2 million in June 2022, Haaland has been a prolific scorer. He has netted more than one-third of City’s Premier League goals, contributing significantly to their league triumphs. Last season, City secured the league with 94 goals, and this season they improved to 96, with Haaland playing a pivotal role.
In his two seasons with City, the 23-year-old forward has scored an astonishing 63 goals in 65 league appearances.
Despite facing some challenges, including criticism and a foot fracture that sidelined him for 10 league and cup games in December and January, Haaland’s goal-scoring prowess has been undeniable. His goals propelled City to a historic fourth successive league title.
However, despite his impressive goal-scoring record, Haaland missed out on the Premier League Player of the Season award, which went to his teammate Phil Foden.
Additionally, the Young Player of the Year award was claimed by Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, making it a season of mixed personal accolades for the Norwegian star.
