Bayer Leverkusen made history by becoming the first team to complete a Bundesliga season undefeated, finishing the regular campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Augsburg.
Goals from Victor Boniface and Robert Andrich sealed Leverkusen’s 28th league triumph this season, earning them the title of German Champions for the very first time.
Leverkusen amassed an impressive tally of 90 points from their 34 matches, leaving second-placed Stuttgart trailing behind by a significant margin of 17 points.
Since taking charge of Leverkusen in October 2022, Xabi Alonso has engineered a remarkable turnaround for the club, guiding them from a mediocre mid-table position to a commendable sixth spot in the standings – far exceeding preseason expectations.
Despite predictions of improvement, nobody could have foreseen Leverkusen going through the entire season invincible.
Indeed, under Alonso’s stewardship, Leverkusen cruised to the Bundesliga championship without suffering a single defeat – only surpassed by Bayern Munich’s record of 91 points set during a prior season.
Following the triumph over Augsburg, the elated Leverkusen squad embarked on a lap of appreciation around the BayArena to express gratitude towards their devoted supporters throughout the historic campaign.

Shortly afterwards, the players received their well-deserved Bundesliga winner’s medals before hoisting the coveted trophy aloft for the inaugural time in their illustrious 120-year history.
Now, Leverkusen stands on the brink of accomplishing yet another milestone: completing the entire season unbeaten across all competitions. As they gear up for the impending Europa League final clash against Atalanta on Wednesday and the DFB-Pokal final versus Kaiserslautern the following Saturday, it is worth noting that Alonso’s resilient charges remain undefeated in a staggering 51 matches thus far.
