Award-winning Nigerian Filmmaker and Producer, Destiny Austine Omon has said Nigerian superstar Davido deserved to have won the award for the Best African Music Performance at the 66th Grammys.
Davido earned three nominations at the 2024 Grammys; Best Global Music Performance, Best Global Music Album and Best African Music Performance.

However, the Afrobeats singer missed out on all three nominations with South Africa’s Tyla clinching the award for the Best African Music Performance with her blockbuster song ‘Water’.
Reacting to this in an interview on Onua Showbiz, Destiny Omon believes Grammys cheated the Nigerian superstar emphasising that it was an orchestrated agenda to deny Davido the covetous award.
“Was Davido supposed to get Grammys? Yes. Were we [Nigerians] cheated? Yes. Was it an agenda? Yes. Are we going to sort it? Yes. Even the judges did not the song, ‘Water’. Why were they playing Fella’s ‘Water’ on the background if they knew the ‘Water’ they were talking about…it was an agenda,” he claimed.
According to him, Nigerian artistes have recently caused shockwaves with top-notch performances on the international front particularly the United States.
This, he said is causing panic in the music industry in America, hence Davido was denied the Grammys to water down the efforts of Nigerian musicians.
“Their artistes are struggling but our boys will go there and shock everywhere with ease, now they are panicking and have decided to ship this thing out of Nigeria and try to water down the way they want to take over the music space and that was what they did,” he stated on Onua Showbiz on May 11.
He further questioned the credibility of Grammys saying that it “can be manipulated based on knowing somebody.”
