Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton has weighed in on the recent touchline clash between Mohamed Salah and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, placing the blame squarely on the Egyptian forward.
During Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against West Ham United on Saturday, Salah was notably dropped from the starting lineup and clashed with Klopp when he was about to be brought on as a substitute in the 79th minute. Witnesses observed the forward engaged in a heated exchange with Klopp on the touchline, prompting concerns over the player’s conduct.
While Klopp downplayed the incident, referring to it as settled, Salah’s response hinted at underlying tensions, as he declined interview requests, cryptically stating, “There’s going to be a fire today if I speak.”
Sutton, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, criticised Salah’s behavior, particularly highlighting his recent dip in form since returning from injury.
“I didn’t like it but I think Mo Salah is the one who was out of order,” Sutton remarked. “It is nothing against Salah and the brilliant player he has been at Liverpool. He has been phenomenal but I think there is a line and unfortunately for him he crossed it.”

The incident has sparked speculation about the Egyptian captain’s future at Liverpool, with his contract set to expire in summer 2025. Reports have suggested potential interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, adding further uncertainty to Salah’s tenure at Anfield.
The draw against West Ham leaves Liverpool trailing Premier League leaders Arsenal by five points, adding to the pressure on Klopp’s final season at the helm of the club.
The former Chelsea winger, who has been a key figure for Liverpool since joining in 2017, faces scrutiny not only for his on-field performances but also for his conduct off the pitch, raising questions about his long-term prospects with the club.
