Professor Ransford Gyampo, a senior political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, has called on President Akufo-Addo to publish the KPMG findings on the controversial Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) deal.
According to the political science professor the report has been submitted to President Akufo-Addo.
President Akufo-Addo suspended the controversial GRA/SML deal and ordered the private audit firm KPMG to probe the deal.
On January 24, 2024, the President extended the period within which KPMG is to complete its audit on the transaction between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML) from the initial date of Tuesday, 16th January 2024, to a new date of Friday, 23rd February 2024.
Prof. Gyampo in a post on Facebook on Wednesday, April 3, indicated that a “simple swift publication of the report would prevent these rumors from festering.”
“I am told KPMG has submitted its report on the SML deal. Given that there were serious allegations of corruption about the deal by a media house, I write as a Citizen to respectfully remind you that, you cannot sit on the report.
“The good people of Ghana have the RIGHT to know the contents of the report, and this is a simple truism that must not elude any government that believes in the dogmas of accountability and transparency,” Prof. Gyampo wrote.
He also cautioned the President to be mindful of the kind of legacy he leaves behind following his imminent exit of power.
“Respectfully, Sir, even though you are done and exiting, I think you must be interested in the legacy you are leaving behind in promoting good governance, accountability, transparency, responsiveness and in the fight against corruption.
“You must also be interested in how your last minute actions and inactions impact on the electoral fortunes of the political organization that birthed your presidency,” he stated.
