Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Andrews Augustus Nana Akwasi has refuted claims that the 2024 running mate of John Dramani Mahama; Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang hails from the Northern Region and not the Central Region as she claims.
He was reacting to a viral video of the Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako making the allegation. In the video, Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi is seen alleging that “I challenge Naana Opoku Agyemang that she does not hail from the Central region; we all have places we hail from, there is nothing wrong with that. My wife is from the Central region and so are my kids.”
During Rawlings era he chose his running mate (Ackaa) from the Central region south-south. He repeated the south-south. John Dramani Mahama is doing north-north because Naana Opoku Agyemang is from the north. The name Opoku Agyemang belongs to her husband” Wontumi alleged.
Reacting to the claims on Akoma FM on Friday morning, Nana Akwasi said, “I need to react because this is an election year, and he may end up affecting innocent people with his gullibility.”
“Ghanaians should totally treat his comments on Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang with contempt. But, let me ask Wontumi, he moves with Bawumia, I think he should have used the opportunity to challenge the Vice President to declare his stance on the LGBTQ issue.”
“It is rather Wontumi’s flagbearer who lacks credibility, if Wontumi wants to chart that path we are ready to face him squarely” Nana Akwasi stated.
He challenged the Regional Chairman of the ruling party to channel his energy to seeing fulfilment of promises made to the Ashanti Region rather than making unfounded allegation against his opponents.
“The NPP promised the people of Ashanti Region development, do we see?”
“I think he should channel his energy to pressuring the President to shift focus to the region.” Nana Akwasi said.
