Even if Ghana is able to close a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the government’s recklessness will make it immaterial to Ghanaians, a private legal practitioner and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Godwin Edudzi Tameklo has said.
Mr Tameklo blamed the current economic challenges on the government.
Speaking on the Big Issue on TV3 Wednesday, April 12 regarding the deal that the government is seeking with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mr Tameklo feared that the government’s conduct may make the deal, even closed, immaterial to Ghanaians.
He said “the current managers of the economy, to the extent that they continue the recklessness, nothing will come out of the IMF deal.”
He further asked “why is Dr Bawumia, the economic messiah not talking? Why is Dr Bawumia quiet, why is he no longer delivering the lectures?”
He said “The IMF is giving us an opportunity as to how we can raise revenue to pay off our debts.”
He added, “2023 is the year of recovery … I agree that the grounds are very difficult or hard.”
