Ghanaian comedian, Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng popularly know in showbiz circles as Funny Face has shared his struggles on his journey before the fame.
On Sunday, the comic actor appeared on an episode of The Day Show with Berla Mundi to discuss his return to the limelight after battling with his mental health and share his journey to recovery. During the show, Funnyface revealed that he had trekked several miles just to crack a minute joke on Adom Fm which was then based in Tema.
“I worked my way up. I used to walk from Circle to Tema just to go an crack a minute joke on Adom FM. People know about it,” he said
According to the SwagOn-Papa, contrary to sentiments that fame and prestige found him in the early days of his career, he had paid his dues and the walk to Adom FM was one of those experiences.
“I used two and half hours to go to Tema. I would jog to Tema. I had to suffer to gain fame. I had to go to Toli masters in 2006, Chorkor trotro in 2008, Hottest Host on TV3 with my red and stripped suit,” he recounted.
He added that after reminiscing on his struggles and messing it up, he had to sit back and restructure his life hence his bounce back.
“Going through all this and then messing it up when I had a good thing. I realized I wasn’t listening so it hit me and when I listened, look at me now,” he added.
Funny Face in the past has battled with mental health, divorce and separation from his twin daughters amidst allegations of threats against certain individuals via social media.
In February 2021, the Kaneshie High Court referred him to be examined by a psychiatrist for his erratic behavior. He was later committed to a psychiatric hospital for treatment
