Yaw Dabo, the owner of Dabo Soccer Academy, has asserted that it is very okay for coaches or stakeholders in football games to pick their favourites over other players.
Yaw Dabo, who also doubles as an actor, says that favouritism is paramount in all areas. He adds that that is why relationship-building is necessary for growth.
“Everyone has an interest in something. Even as a team owner, when my team is going to play, I prefer that certain players be used. But the coach might not want that player to play. If I’m present, i will go against the coach.
“All the players are Ghanaians. That is why it is important to form relationships. If you play very well and another player also plays well. So who will I choose? I will pick the one that I have an interest in.”
Yaw Dabo contributed Afriyie Barnieh for the Ghana Black Stars team as the team battles it out in Qatar 2022.
“I am very happy when a child I nurtured reaches the highest level. When he started playing friendly matches, I received calls from several agents. It makes me happy and also paves the way for the young ones coming.”
According to Yaw Dabo, Ghana needs unity and the right selection to progress in the World Cup tournament. He added that the Ghanaian team is full of good material that needs a proper strategy to succeed.
“You don’t need quality and unity too. If you have quality without unity, you cannot win. We pray that God will give our coach wisdom and knowledge to know which players need to start or wait out on the bench.”
