Traditional authorities in Manso Adubia have declared war against miners in Manso and other adjoining communities in the Amansie West district of the Ashanti region.
They are livid the mining communities have raped their lands of all its minerals without any commensurate contribution to the development of the area.
Addressing his people, the Gyaasehene of Adubia Nana Adusei Kwadampem II lamented that all efforts to get the mining companies to help the community fix their deplorable roads and provide jobs has fallen on deaf ears.
Nana Adusei warns government should not be surprised if they confront the miners over their negligence for development in their traditional areas.
“The miners have destroyed all our roads All the cocoa bequeathed by our ancestors have been destroyed This town does not reflect the wealth made by miners
I have resolved that this place will not be like Obuasi. I have waged war on them and I will continue to fight them so if you hear anything, don’t be surprised.
The miners are cheats. They constructed a road into their mines. Recently when the rains cut off some of our communities we and our DCE had to go and beg them to allow our commercial cars to use their roads. They don’t regard us in any way. When there is any job opportunity our people are not even considered. You will not find any native of Manso among the senior staff of the mines. So if you hear any mass action, we are on a course to defend our interests.”
Meanwhile the District Chief Executive of Amansie West, Williams Asante Bediako has endorsed the planned action of the chiefs. He contends the chiefs have every right to demand their due from the miners.
“As a DCE, I am here for the miners but they should also bear in mind that I am also there to defend the interest of my people and their traditional authorities.
They always come here and demean our villagers. You will sometimes see documents from Accra authorizing them to mine on a certain land for almost nothing.
Aren’t the lands that are sold for dollars in Accra and Kumasi the same acre of lands sold here? That aside, when our people want jobs, we have to beg and beg and they will not even be considered. They don’t even give any slots for our natives to have their national service in their mines. They will rather go for outsiders.”
