The Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) has ended a project to engender better involvement of citizens in the administration of their local assemblies.
The project involved government, civil society organisations in the Bia West and citizens in the Asutifi North district assemblies with funding from the French government.
Global Alliance for Development Foundation (GADeF) which was part of the partners in Asutifi north in the Brong Ahafo region constituted a Youth parliament and a Youth manifesto which has been included in the Asutifi north district medium term development plan for 2018 to 2021.
Another partner, the Agricultural Environmental Infrastructural Development Foundation (AGRIDEF) from Bia west district in the western region, teamed up with 15 public schools in fifteen different communities to green the environment by nursing and planting over a thousand five hundred trees to replace the depleted forest.
Speaking to Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador at the closing session in Kumasi, project manager with the Centre for Democratic Development, Kwabena Aborampah expressed satisfaction at the outcomes of the project.
He noted that the programme was motivated by, “the lack of accountability, transparency and a communication gap between the assembly and the citizens.”
He was satisfied several apprehensions between District Chief Executives (DCEs) and their citizens about the release and use of District Assembly Common Funds (DACFs) had been settled through initiatives undertaken under the project.
The two CSOs GADEF and AGRIDEF each received fifteen thousand Euros on the project which was carried out on the theme “Strengthening ties between government, civil society and citizens “
The programme also had input from Diplomat and Senior Fellow with CDD Ghana HE. Ambassador Francis Tsegah and French Support Programme coordinator with the French Embassy Ms Esther Srem-Sai.
