Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Sammy Anim Addo has publicly criticised the GFA, accusing referee Maxwell Hanson of acting as their agent for dubious activities.
His remarks followed Accra Lions’ claims of unfair officiating during their recent 1-0 defeat to Dreams FC in the Ghana Premier League matchweek 16 at the Tuba Astro Turf.
Accra Lions expressed their discontent, alleging they were “robbed,” and a video evidence that got a lot of football fanatics talking about and calling for significant reforms in Ghanaian football.
Meanwhile, Dreams FC defended the referee, arguing that every club has experienced poor officiating at some point and citing that Accra Lions are hypocritical.
Anim Addo, who now serves as the president of Young Apostles FC, did not hold back in his critique of Maxwell Hanson. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he referred to Hanson as a “hatchet man” and accused the GFA leadership of silencing him when he raised concerns about officiating.
Maxwell Hanson is their man for ‘dirty works,’” Anim Addo wrote. “I sounded the alarm months ago but was met with strong opposition and attempts to silence me by the GFA leadership. His disgraceful conduct continues to undermine the league’s credibility.
In a bold revelation, Anim Addo claimed he had been repeatedly threatened with relegation as a consequence of his outspokenness.
I have been threatened many times already that this GFA administration will use foul means to relegate my club, Young Apostles,” he stated. “But I want to caution them—relegation is not the worst they can do to me. My commitment and investment in Ghanaian football remain unwavering.
