Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and cousin of former President Nana Akufo-Addo, has congratulated H.E. John Mahama on his official assumption of office as Ghana’s President.
In a message shared via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Otchere-Darko acknowledged a new era for Ghanaians and extended his best wishes to the new head of state.
He wrote:
Congratulations Ghana! New head. New set. New dawn. New hopes. Great expectations. Wishing the new leadership and Ghana the best in all things possible. Ghana is indeed beautiful! Let’s have the courage to celebrate the beauty about Ghana that others so easily celebrate and reference.
Swearing-In of President and Vice President
His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has officially been sworn in as President of the Republic of Ghana for the next four years. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkonoo during a presidential inauguration ceremony held at the Black Star Square in Accra on Tuesday, 7th January 2025.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including former Presidents Nana Akufo-Addo and John Agyekum Kufuor, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, Members of Parliament, and thousands of Ghanaians.
The event also welcomed several heads of state and international delegations, including the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Wonie Bio, President of Rwanda Paul Kagame, and a delegation from the United States, among others.
Ahead of Mr Mahama’s swearing-in, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang also took the oath as Ghana’s first female Vice President. Her inauguration represents a groundbreaking milestone in Ghana’s political history, breaking long-standing gender barriers and symbolising significant progress in a traditionally male-dominated political sphere.
President Mahama’s Message of Hope to Ghanaians
Delivering his acceptance speech, President Mahama expressed profound gratitude to voters for their overwhelming endorsement and promised to reset the country towards economic transformation.
He assured his firm commitment to navigating the challenges facing the nation with humility, urging all citizens to eschew pessimism and promote the national interest.
President of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, also emphasised his commitment to improving the livelihoods of citizens and the business community by implementing the much-touted 24-hour economy policy.
According to him, the policy will drive economic transformation by creating jobs for the youth, building a conducive environment for businesses, and attracting foreign investments.
