Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus and the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He described the party's leadership as unserious, citing it as the primary reason for his decision to align with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking to TV3 after his swearing-in ceremony, A-Plus elaborated on his reasons for crossing over to the NDC caucus in Parliament.
The NPP leadership is not a serious one. They don’t know what they’re about, and I think they have not gotten over the defeat they recently encountered. I had to go where I am valued and where the leadership is serious about running a country. The NDC has shown that they value what I bring to the table and respect who I am.
My heart leans towards the NDC: A-Plus declares intentions
Earlier, A-Plus had disclosed his inclination to work with the NDC in the 9th Parliament, citing their alignment with his values and interests. Despite this, he remained open to collaborating with any party that prioritises his vision and the needs of his constituents in Gomoa Central.
In a Facebook post, A-Plus revealed that Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, a leading member of the NPP, had reached out to discuss his alignment with the party.
The NPP, led by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, has officially approached me to discuss aligning with them in Parliament. Their proposal includes several intriguing agreements, such as a commitment not to contest the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat in the 2028 election.
However, A-Plus maintained that his preference is to work with the NDC, even though he acknowledged the importance of negotiating the best terms for himself and his constituents.
The NDC, with whom I genuinely wish to align, has also invited me for a meeting tomorrow at 8 a.m. While I have friends in both the NDC and NPP, they must understand that I will have to disappoint someone. Let me make this simple and clear: deep down, my heart leans toward the NDC, but I will ultimately side with whoever has my interest at heart and provides the best offer for me and the people of Gomoa Central.
A-Plus’s transition reveals the dynamic shift in Ghana’s political landscape, with his decision potentially influencing the balance of power and future political alliances in Parliament.
