The National Security Ministry has imposed a ban on all drone operations during the Presidential inauguration set for Tuesday, 7th January 2025.
According to the directive, the use of drones—both recreational and commercial—is strictly prohibited in and around the Black Star Square for the duration of the event.
In a press release dated 2nd January and signed by Acting Chief Director Lily Fati Soale, the ministry explained that the measure is aimed at ensuring the safety and security of dignitaries and members of the public attending the ceremony.
The National Security Ministry reiterated its commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for the event, urging drone operators to comply with the directive and respect all security protocols.
Thousands of Ghanaians, along with dignitaries, are expected to gather at the Black Star Square for the swearing-in of President-elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-elect Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
John Mahama was officially declared President-elect on 9th December 2024 by Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa. Mahama secured victory with 6,328,397 votes (56.55%), defeating Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who obtained 4,657,304 votes (41.61%).
Ahead of the main swearing-in ceremony, Members of Parliament-elect for the various constituencies and the Speaker-elect will be sworn in at 11:00 PM and midnight on 6th January, respectively.
In a related development, President Akufo-Addo delivered his final State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Friday, 3rd January 2025.
In his speech, the President insisted that Ghana’s economy is not in distress, dismissing such claims as propaganda. He maintained that his administration is leaving behind a strong and stable economy, backed by key indicators, including gross international reserves of nearly 8 billion US dollars.
