The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has confirmed receiving GH?35 million from the Ministry of Education (MoE) to help in processing the release of results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
This comes after the Council cautioned that the delay in releasing results due to the amount the government owes might affect the academic calendar of tertiary institutions in the country.
The caution was acted upon by the Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, who assured the general public that WAEC would release the results on December 29, 2024, during a visit to WAEC offices on Christmas Eve.
Later, WAEC said they couldn’t guarantee that results would be released on the said date because the financial obligations had not been met yet. The council also denied claims regarding the government's release of GH?25 million for operational activities. This resulted in a public exchange between the two institutions.
However, the matter has since been resolved and the Council through a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, John Kapi, on Friday, December 27, 2024, confirmed receiving the GH?35 million to complete results processing.
The West African Examinations Council wishes to inform its stakeholders that on December 25, 2024, it received a cheque for an additional GHS35,000,000 from the Ministry of Education to enable it to complete the scanning of the objective answer cards and conclude the processing of results for the WASSCE for school candidates, 2024.
The statement added that WAEC was working round the clock to ensure the results were released by the end of the month.
Meanwhile, the council appealed to the MoE to release the outstanding balance to enable it to pay supervisors, invigilators, script checkers, and suppliers of examination materials, and also meet other financial obligations.
WAEC wished its stakeholders the best of the season and reiterated its commitment to deliver despite the many challenges.
