A groundbreaking ceremony has been held for the construction of a 12-unit classroom block, teachers’ quarters and a clinic at Babayara Basic School in the La Nkwantanang–Madina Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
The classroom block will comprise a modern library, staff common room, dining hall, store and a headteacher’s office, while the clinic will feature an out-patients department, male and female wards, a quarantine area, pharmacy, laboratory, consulting rooms and a dining hall.
In addition, a mosque will be constructed to serve Muslim pupils and provide a prayer space for the surrounding community.
The projects, being undertaken by the Qatar Foundation, are expected to be completed within six months and are aimed at improving teaching, learning and healthcare delivery at the school.
The Foundation has already handed over a newly constructed Al-Rahma Mosque on the assembly premises to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Ibrahim Fusseini Faila.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Country Director of the Qatar Foundation, Mr Hassan Ali Owda, said the initiative symbolised the strong relationship between the Foundation and the municipality.
He explained that the organisation was inspired by the charitable works of Prophet Mohammed, particularly his role in building the city of Medina, and sought to replicate similar humanitarian initiatives wherever it operates.
Mr Owda commended the MCE for his bold developmental vision and pledged the Foundation’s continued support to other communities in need.
Sheikh Turki Almarri, a Professor at Qatar University, offered prayers for Allah’s guidance and blessings for the Madina community, calling for peace, unity and support for the area’s development agenda.
The MCE, Alhaji Faila, expressed gratitude to the Foundation for selecting the municipality and assured that the facilities would be properly maintained.
“This support from the Qatar Foundation calls for deep reflection and spiritual renewal for all who will benefit from the mosque and the other facilities when completed,” he said.
He added that the Al-Rahma Central Mosque would serve as a beacon of peace, promote community cohesion and offer staff convenient access to worship.
The Paramount Chief of Madina, Alhaji Amadu Baba Seidu, also commended the Foundation for supporting the municipality’s development efforts and improving the lives of residents.
