The Old Tafo Circuit Court has sentenced an 18-year-old student of Adanwomase Senior High School (SHS) to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for robbing a teacher.
The court, presided over by Justice Festus Nukunu, imposed the sentence on Gabriel Osei Kwame for robbing Matilda Boatema, a teacher of GyamanPensan SHS.
Osei Kwame pleaded guilty to the robbery charge.
Prosecuting, Inspector Alfred Aruk, said Osei Kwame attacked Boatema with a jack knife and robbed her of Infinix Hot 9 smartphone, valued at GH¢700 cedis, GH¢570 cash, valuable documents, cooked rice and stew.
The court heard that Boatema reported the robbery to the police at Asonomaso, and the police upon investigation found the complainant’s bag in a nearby bush, though the phone and cash were missing.
Insp. Aruk said Boatema raised the alarm when she saw Osei Kwame in the company of a friend, and convict was arrested and handed over to the police at Asonomaso.
According to prosecution, Osei Kwame admitted to robbing the teacher, and selling the phone to someone at Adum PZ for GH¢250.
Insp. Aruk further said that Kwame could not assist the police to recover the phone.— myjoyonline.com
