The Ashanti Global Festival Heritage, in collaboration with Phoenix Ent. LLC, Verna and iBelieve Records last Thursday, held a Media Summit at the Kumasi City Mall.
The Media Summit forms part of this year’s Ashanti Festival Celebrations, intended to create a platform for media professionals and industry stakeholders to dialogue on evolving issues pertaining to the media and communication landscape within the region and Ghana as a whole.

The Summit, under the theme: “Amplifying Ashanti, Media, Culture and Digital Influence in the New Creative Economy” set the tone and highlighted the importance of media in shaping the narrative about Ashanti and Ghana, with its focus on media as a driver of tourism, digital storytelling and opportunities in creative economy.
The Summit also facilitated an Open Forum session with the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene: Kofi Adu Domfeh, GJA Ashanti Regional Chairman: Agyenim Boateng, alias Nana Kokooto of OTEC FM and Nana Kwadwo Jantuah (FOCUS FM).
Mr. Kofi Adu Domfeh indicated that the gathering reflected the growing recognition of the media’s role in shaping narratives, preserving culture and driving economic transformation. He commended the organisers of the Ashanti Festival for creating a platform that brings together journalists, policymakers, cultural leaders and creative industry players to deliberate on the future of the media and its influence on our society.
The GJA Ashanti Regional Chairman explained that “we are living in a rapidly evolving media landscape where storytelling has shaped and moved beyond traditional platforms”, noting that the digital revolution had transformed how stories are told, how cultures are shared and how economies are shaped, an indication that the media was not merely a conveyor of information.
He noted that the media was a powerful driver of tourism, culture, identity, and economic opportunity, adding that the Ashanti region, with its rich history, vibrant traditions and globally recognised cultural heritage, stood as a unique crossroads, through which responsible and innovative journalism of Ashanti culture could be projected to the world.

Mr. Domfeh further indicated that a creative economy presents enormous opportunities for Ghana and particularly for regions like Ashanti region, home of creative culture and tradition.
He noted that behind a successful creative sector lies the media, as a powerful catalyst, explaining that music, film, fashion, digital content, festivals and cultural tourism all depend heavily on effective media visibility.
“When journalists tell authentic stories about our people, our festivals, our arts, and our heritage, we do more than report the news. We contribute to national development”, the Regional GJA Chairman noted.
Mr. Domfeh further stressed the need to strengthen ethical standards, invest in fact-checking, and ensure that technological innovation does not compromise journalistic integrity, noting that the Ghana Journalists Association remains committed to promoting responsible journalism, protecting press freedom and building the capacity of journalists to thrive in this digital era and encouraging media practitioners to embrace digital storytelling, multimedia reporting and data journalism as tools to reach new audiences and create greater impact.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, indicated that the Ashanti Festival tells the Asante story, as well as promoting the Region globally to help attract investors.
