An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour Susana Eduful has granted bail to architect Edmund Nii Sowah, who has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy and defrauding by false pretence.
Nii Sowah was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢200,000 with two sureties, all to be justified with landed property equal to the bail amount.
The court further ordered that original title documents covering the properties be deposited at the court registry until the final determination of the case.
The court directed the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Nancy Paintsil, Esq., to file all disclosures ahead of trial.
The case has been adjourned to February 2, 2026.
Nii Sowah is standing trial together with Thomas Lartey, who is currently at large.
Brief Facts
According to the prosecution, the complainant, Stephanie Asare, a trader, sought assistance to secure Certificates of Sponsorship for three relatives.
She contacted her sister, Gloria Boakye Yiadom, who resides in the United Kingdom and through her was introduced to Edmund Nii Sowah (A1) as someone capable of assisting with the documents.
Nii Sowah allegedly confirmed he could procure the Certificates of Sponsorship at a cost of GH¢120,000 per applicant.
He later introduced Thomas Lartey (A2) as the source of the documents and provided the complainant with A2’s First Atlantic Bank account details, instructing her to make payment.
The complainant subsequently paid GH¢300,000 into the said account. Nii Sowah reportedly assured her the documents would be ready within two months, but failed to deliver after the period elapsed.
The complainant then reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of Nii Sowah. During investigations, he allegedly mentioned Thomas Lartey as his accomplice and confirmed that the money had been paid to him.
A court order was served on First Atlantic Bank Ghana Limited, which confirmed that GH¢300,000 was paid into an account operated by Thomas Lartey.
Investigators also retrieved a cash exhibit of GH¢100,000, which was handed over to the complainant.
Following investigations, the prosecution charged the accused persons with the offences contained in the charge sheet, and the matter is now before the court for trial.
