Ghanaian musician Emmanuel Owusu-Bonsu, popularly known in entertainment circles as Wanlov the Kubolor, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court on a charge of defrauding by false pretence.
Wanlov, 45, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before His Honour Kwabena Kodua Obiri Yeboah on Tuesday. He was subsequently granted GH¢50,000 bail with one surety.
The charge, filed under Section 131(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), alleges that between April 1 and May 26, 2025, the accused obtained US$4,500 from one Jemima Azizaa Abotsigah under the pretext of shooting a music video for her—an assertion prosecutors say he knew to be false.
Chief Inspector Belinda Asante, who presented the brief facts, told the court that Jemima, a musician and self-employed worker, contracted Wanlov in March 2025 to produce a music video at a cost of US$10,000.
She reportedly made a part payment of US$4,500 over the stated period.
However, after receiving the money, the accused allegedly failed to execute the project. Repeated attempts by the complainant to retrieve her money were unsuccessful, prompting her to lodge a complaint with the police.
According to investigators, Wanlov admitted during interrogation that he indeed received the money but claimed it was offered as help and not as payment for a video shoot. He was arrested on October 28, 2025, and subsequently charged.
The case has been adjourned to January 29, 2025 for continuation.
