The freedom of movement of a 35-year-old businessman, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, suspected to have played a role in the killing of investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein-Suale, in 2019 has been curtailed by the Madina District Court.
Koranteng, also known as Amakye, made his first appearance in court, presided over by SuzzyNkotey yesterday, where he faced a committal trial for murder.
Prosecutors, led by Chief Inspector Nana Afua Bamfoa, revealed that the accused, a former colleague of the deceased at Tiger Eye P.I., an investigative firm, is believed to have provided the late journalist’s photograph to Kennedy Agyapong, a former Member of Parliament for Assin Central.
The image was later broadcast on Net2 TV, allegedly exposing Ahmed Suale to danger.
Prosecution Case
According to the prosecutor, Ahmed Suale was shot and killed at Madina on January 16, 2019 after his identity had been made public.
Investigators say Koranteng was in constant communication with the deceased before the murder.
Evidence presented by the prosecution includes call records that allegedly placed the accused in Madina, near Suale’s residence, before and at the time of the incident.
The prosecution also disclosed that Koranteng left Ghana for the UK in August 2019 after refusing multiple police invitations for questioning.
However, intelligence led to his arrest, upon his return to Ghana on March 15, 2025, in Amasaman.
Accused Denies Involvement
While in police custody, Koranteng admitted to knowing Ahmed Suale, having visited Kennedy Agyapong and having taken photographs with the deceased.
However, he denied selling the images or having any involvement in the murder.
Court Decision
The Madina District Court ordered Koranteng’s remand in custody until April 1, 2025 to allow further investigations into the case.
The police are continuing their probe to identify other potential suspects involved in the killing.
Ahmed Hussein-Suale, an investigative journalist with Tiger Eye P.I., was known for his undercover work exposing corruption.
His killing in 2019 drew international condemnation, with calls for justice from media organizations and human rights groups.
