Bawumia Volunteer 2024, a volunteer group within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been launched in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, to canvas for votes for the governing party in the upcoming elections. It is headed by Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Education Minister.
With B24, the elephant movement aims to buckle down and reach the nook and cranny of Ghana to amass votes in the upcoming polls.
Addressing the gathering in Kumasi, after being named as the Chairman for B24, the minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, asked NPP members to unite and forge ahead and campaign vigorously for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“With B24, we are burying our differences with unity and hard work to support our flag bearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his running mate Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh. We are here to rally our support for them and forge ahead for victory.
According to Dr Adutwum, the victory of the NPP is not an ordinary victory, explaining that when one enters the voting booth to cast his or her ballot, Bawumia should be their ultimate choice.
The Bosomtwe MP stated that Ghana’s education has made tremendous strides since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took over the reins of government.
“The programme has increased SHS enrolment from 800,000 to 1.4 million”, he said, adding that TVET has also been introduced with accompanied infrastructure development.
Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) has also been introduced in Ghana.
He continued that the NPP government had built new Science laboratories for SHSs in Ashanti region and these schools are Anglican Senior High School, Afia Kobi Ampem, ST Louis, Opoku Ware and Kumasi High.
In view of the above, Dr Adutwum said the NPP is unmatched when it comes to educational transformation.
“There has not been any government, which has invested so much in education than Nana Akufo Addo Dankwa’s regime. Today, when you are in High School, you can opt to learn about Aviation and Aerospace, he said.
Dr. Ayew Afriyie, the middle belt campaign coordinator for the NPP, mentioned at the event that NPP has a lot of volunteer groups.
“We need to bring all of them together as Bawumia volunteer group 24 (B24). Bawumia 24, which is being led by Adutwum as national chairman has started in Ashanti region and it is supposed to BE harmonised, because there are a lot of volunteer groups. Sometimes people get confused about these groups and that is why we have come together and anyone who is part of B24 is Bawumia who is campaigning.”
With the formation of B24, Dr Afriyie noted that they would be going into peoples’ homes to sell the message of Bawumia to the people of Ashanti region to attain the 85% votes in the region.
“The target is that Ashanti is not getting less than 85%. If we are voting today, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has lost.”
Ayew Afriyie argued that the NDC research has shown that they are losing, emphasising that God knows why he has put NPP at the number one position on the ballot and eighth position means Mahama is going to spend eight years in opposition.
He noted that the Ashanti region plays a crucial role in the NPP, hence the B24 being launched in the Ashanti region.
“Ashanti region has been the pivotal region in the annals of the NPP, which is why Bawumia stated during the presidential primaries that if Ashanti region votes for him, he will pick his running mate from the region. The Ashanti region has every reason to work for Bawumia to become the next president.”
This, according to Dr Ayew Afriyie, who is the Member of Parliament for Asokore Effiduase, was why the NPP had come together with all the volunteering groups to canvass for votes for Bawumia.
