Management of the Eastern regional branch of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has called on the general public to support in protecting the various Transformers of the company in the region.
The call for support comes after the recent vandalism and theft of transformers by some unscrupulous individuals.
On Friday, one of the Transformers was vandalised and its parts stolen. This development led to power outages in the Lartey Gas area of Koforidua.
To this, the authorities have urged the public to be vigilant and swiftly report unannounced power outages, particularly at night, for an immediate investigation to determine if the Transformer had been tampered with.
ECG, the provider of electricity in Ghana, has been grappling with the persistent thefts despite concerted efforts to curb the criminal activities in the Eastern Region.
One such strategy involves the erection of concrete fences around this vital infrastructure to deter thieves and safeguard the electricity supply to local communities.
