The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has insisted the contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd. (SML) should remain suspended.
He has denied a request by the Ghana Revenue Authority (RA) to allow the monitoring system installed and used by SML to continue. The GRA had written to the president for the continuation of the deal.
According to a statement from Jubilee House, “the President has denied GRA’s request and has directed that the status quo, with respect to the suspension of the performance of the contract, should remain in effect until the completion of the audit and, subsequent, submission of the audit report by KPMG.”
The statement signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, indicated that the President has extended the deadline for KPMG to audit the transaction.
As such, the initial date of Tuesday, January 16, 2024, has been moved to a new date of Friday, February 23, 2024.
The change followed a request made by KPMG to the President for an extension of the two-week period originally given to the company to undertake the assignment.
