Sixty-eight-year-old member of the Akyirem Royal family of Offinso, Nana Amoako Poku, has been named as the Offinsohene-elect.
The renowned Curator of Asante Heritage was presented to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the final session of the Asanteman Council, at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, by the KwakwaboaAbusuapanin, Opanin Yaw Nkrumah Adusah.
A statement issued at the Manhyia Palace by the Chief of Staff, Mr. Kofi Badu, said the election of Nana Amoako Poku follows the failure of the Offinsohemaa to nominate a qualified Royal from the Offinso Royal family to occupy the vacant Wiafe Akenten Stool.
Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko, the Offinsohemaa, has thus exhausted the three chances to nominate a Royal.
The Chief of Staff further explained that in the circumstance and in accordance with Asante tradition, the Abusuapanin assumed the responsibility and in consultation with the Royal family, nominated a qualified royal in the person of Nana Amoako Poku for the Offinso Stool.
With the election of Nana Amoako Poku, the stage is, therefore, set for the replacement of Nana Wiafe Akenten III, who reigned for 28 years as Offinsomanhene, from November 1993 to October 2021.
