Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised Antoine Semenyo for the immediate influence he has made since joining the Premier League champions.
The Ghana international has been in scintillating form following his January switch from AFC Bournemouth, quickly establishing himself as a key figure in City’s attacking setup.
Semenyo was again decisive on Saturday at Elland Road, striking the lone goal to hand City a gritty 1-0 victory over Leeds United.
Reflecting on the forward’s contribution, Guardiola admitted even he has been impressed by how swiftly the new signing has adapted.
"When you buy players, always the intention, but you never know; the impact [of Semenyo] has been really good, not just in terms of goals," Guardiola said after the game.
Guardiola also provided a brief update on injured striker Erling Haaland, conceding he remains unsure about the Norwegian’s return date.
"I wish [Haaland] would come back; I don't know [when he will be back]," he added.
With 10 crucial matches remaining in the campaign, Semenyo appears poised to carry greater responsibility as City attempt to close the gap on the league leaders.
The latest strike takes the 24-year-old’s tally to 14 goals and four assists in 27 Premier League appearances this season. He will be aiming to extend that fine run when City welcome Nottingham Forest to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
