The Medical Committee of the Ghana Football Association has carried out a free breast and cervical cancer screening exercise for female footballers and match officials in Kumasi.
The initiative, held on Saturday, 7 February 2026, was led by the GFA Medical Committee under the supervision of Dr Abena Tannor, in collaboration with the Medical Women Association of Ghana and Hope Xchange Medical Centre. A total of 77 participants benefited from the exercise.
The screening targeted Division One female footballers operating under the Ashanti Regional Football Association, with players drawn from eight clubs. Female referees and match officials in the region were also included in the outreach programme.
Beyond the medical examinations, participants took part in an educational session on breast and cervical cancer. The engagement focused on awareness, early detection, and the importance of regular preventive healthcare, with practical guidance aimed at helping athletes make informed decisions about their health.
The exercise forms part of broader efforts to integrate healthcare into women’s football, ensuring female athletes have access to essential medical services within supportive and familiar sporting environments.
It further reflects the GFA Medical Committee’s commitment to working closely with regional football bodies, clubs, and healthcare partners to promote the well-being of female footballers, both on and off the pitch.
