Cameroon President Paul Biya has approved a significant financial reward for the national football team in a move to bolster morale ahead of a critical match.
Each player will receive a bonus of approximately 18.18 million CFA francs (around â¬30,000) following their qualification for the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The decision, made in collaboration with Sports Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, is part of the country's performance-based incentive programme. Minister Kombi announced the reward, which combines bonuses for both qualification and victory, praising the team's effort and declaring, "Vive le Cameroun qui gagne!" (Long live a winning Cameroon!).
The Indomitable Lions earned their quarter-final berth with a hard-fought 2â1 victory over South Africa in the round of 16. This financial boost is intended to provide additional encouragement and motivation as the team prepares for a formidable challenge against tournament hosts Morocco.
The gesture also arrives at a time of notable administrative tension within Cameroonian football, stemming from a prolonged dispute between the national football federation and the Ministry of Sports. Observers suggest the unified state support for the team could help mend these institutional rifts at a crucial stage in the tournament.
The five-time champions are now focused on their quest for a sixth AFCON title. With spirits lifted by the presidential reward, the team will look to translate this support into a winning performance on the pitch against Morocco.
