Kwesi Appiah's Sudan has booked their place in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The Falcons of Jediane sealed their place as one of the best third-placed teams following Morocco’s crucial victory over Zambia. This result confirmed their progression even before the final round of group matches.
It marks a remarkable turnaround for a team that started the tournament at the bottom of their group but climbed to third place after recording a historic 1-0 win against Equatorial Guinea.
The triumph was particularly significant as it was only Sudan’s second-ever victory at the AFCON since 1970, and their first at the tournament since 2012.
Appiah’s achievement adds another chapter to his impressive coaching career, as he continues to make history with Sudan on the continental stage.
Although they still face Burkina Faso in their final group match on Wednesday at the Mohammed V Stadium, qualification is already secured, easing pressure and boosting confidence.
Sudan now join the likes of Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, and Ivory Coast in the Round of 16, standing tall among Africa’s elite and daring to dream of more.
