Former Ghana international Derek Boateng has claimed England are wary of facing the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L and will meet the Three Lions in their second group fixture in Boston, following an opening match against Panama. The Black Stars will conclude their group campaign against Croatia.
Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, Boateng, a member of Ghana’s squad at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, insisted the English side are uneasy about the matchup.
"England is not tough for us. England is afraid of us," he said.
Despite his confidence ahead of the clash with Thomas Tuchel’s side, Boateng urged caution in Ghana’s opening game, stressing the importance of a winning start against Panama.
"The team we have to look at more is Panama, and I feel like we have to make sure we win that game."
Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England in Boston on June 23. They will wrap up the group stage against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
After disappointing group-stage exits at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2022 tournament in Qatar, the Black Stars will be determined to progress further at the expanded 2026 finals.
