Emanuel Poku set the tone with a sharp assist that helped Almere City seal a thrilling 3â2 comeback win over Fortuna Sittard in the KNVB Cup Round 2 on Wednesday night.
The Dutch-Ghanaian forward started and completed the full game, playing with confidence and energy that lifted the visitors. His key moment arrived in the 76th minute when he slipped a neat pass into Julian Rijkhoff, who finished calmly to make it 2â2 and swing the momentum.
Fortuna Sittard struck first through Justin Lonwijk in the 11th minute, but Almere City stayed composed. Emmanuel van de Blaak leveled matters in the 24th minute with a close-range header from a corner. Kaj Sierhuis restored the home side’s lead after the break, heading in on 64 minutes.
The game shifted further when Fortuna were reduced to ten men following Edouard Michut’s red card. Almere City pushed forward with belief, and after Rijkhoff’s equaliser, Olivier de Nijs completed the turnaround late on with a powerful header.
Poku’s movement and decision-making stood out, earning loud applause from away fans. Almere City now turn focus to their league clash with FC Emmen on December 20.
