Winger Peter Amidu Acquah scored deep into added time to give Asante Kotoko a dramatic 2â1 comeback victory over Future Stars FC in their MTN FA Cup Round of 64 tie on Wednesday afternoon.
Kotoko travelled to Okese Park to clear the outstanding fixture, which had been rescheduled due to fixture congestion. The Premier League side were pushed hard by their lower-tier opponents in a match that produced tension and late drama.
Future Stars made a bright start and stunned Kotoko by opening the scoring in the 9th minute. Despite dominating possession and creating several openings, the Porcupine Warriors were unable to find an equaliser before halftime.
After the break, Kotoko increased the pressure and were eventually rewarded in the 72nd minute when in-form forward Hubert Gyau fired in a well-taken effort to level the match and shift momentum their way.
As the game edged toward full-time, extra time seemed likely, but Kotoko kept pushing. Their persistence paid off in stoppage time when Acquah unleashed a powerful strike to seal the comeback and secure passage to the Round of 32.
The victory spares Kotoko from an early exit and keeps their hopes of defending the FA Cup title alive as they move into the next stage of the competition.
