Mohamed Salah’s place in Liverpool’s travelling squad remains uncertain despite his involvement in training on Monday ahead of the Champions League clash with Inter Milan.
The forward trained during the portion of the session open to the media, but indications from the club suggest he will not fly with the team later today, Monday.
Salah’s situation has escalated following a highly critical interview over the weekend in which he said he felt he had been “thrown under the bus” during Liverpool’s recent struggles.
He also stated that his relationship with head coach Arne Slot had deteriorated. His remarks intensified scrutiny surrounding his reduced role, with the Egypt international starting three straight matches on the bench.
He was an unused substitute in Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Leeds United, where Liverpool surrendered a two-goal lead.
Salah also came off the bench in a 1-1 draw with Sunderland and remained inactive in a 2-0 win at West Ham. His last start came in a 4-1 home defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
Salah’s last goal was scored in a 2-0 win at Aston Villa on 1 November. He has recorded five goals in 18 matches across league and European competitions this season.
Despite the current tension, his overall Liverpool record remains exceptional, with 250 goals in 420 appearances. His 29 league goals last season powered Liverpool to the Premier League title. He signed a new two-year contract with the club in April.
Slot is due to address the media in Italy this evening and is expected to face questions about Salah’s future and the forward’s claim of deteriorating trust.
Liverpool’s squad will fly to Milan later this afternoon, and clarity on Salah’s involvement is anticipated before departure.
