The Minister for Information, Fatimatu Abubakar has reiterated the government’s dedication to combating Ghana’s illegal mining crisis, galamsey, while promoting sustainable mining practices.
This comes after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo met with Organised Labour leaders, urging them to reconsider their planned indefinite strike, set for October 10.
“We are committed to protecting the environment while pursuing sustainable mining practices,” Fatimatu Abubakar stated in a statement.

Ghana’s galamsey crisis has ravaged the environment, polluting water bodies and destroying forests. Organised Labour’s strike threat follow demands from the government including a declaration of a state of emergency.
President Akufo-Addo appealed for more time to address labour leaders’ concerns, sparking mixed reactions.
Fatimatu Abubakar highlighted the government’s ongoing initiatives toward sustainable mining and environmental protection.
“We will continue to engage with all stakeholders to achieve these objectives,” she assured.
