At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Grammy-winning advocacy organization Global Citizen, creative imprint pgLang, and Presidents Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana and Paul Kagame of Rwanda announced the expansion of the Move Afrika: A Global Citizen Experience tour to Accra, Ghana.
The tour aims to pioneer a unique international music circuit across Africa, promoting economic investment, job creation, and entrepreneurship opportunities in each host country.
Following the success of Move Afrika: Rwanda, which featured Kendrick Lamar and engaged over 1000 Rwandans, the initiative is set to transform live entertainment in Africa. The recently unveiled Move Afrika: Ghana builds on the impact of the unforgettable Global Citizen Festival: Accra in 2022.
The Ghanaian event injected over $15 million into the economy, employed over 1000 Ghanaians and drew more than 5000 visitors.
The Move Afrika tour is set to expand to three countries in 2024 and five countries by 2025, setting a new gold standard for entertainment touring in Africa. Each event will contribute to local economies, skill development, and youth entrepreneurship. The collaboration between Global Citizen and the governments of Ghana and Rwanda aims to showcase African creative talent globally.
President Nana Akufo-Addo expressed excitement about Ghana’s inclusion, stating, “We are delighted to join Rwanda in becoming the next destination for Global Citizen’s multi-year, multi-market pan-African tour.” President Paul Kagame congratulated the collaboration, emphasizing the economic legacy of the region.
Kweku Mandela, Chief Vision Officer at Global Citizen, highlighted the impact on the creative economy, while pgLang expressed enthusiasm about expanding their efforts to Ghana. Further details, including event dates and line-ups, will be announced in the coming months, promising an elevated experience for fans and artists across the continent.
