The Alisa Hotel in Accra came alive on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 as leaders in health, business, academia and public service gathered for the highly anticipated launch of Not Easily Beaten, the riveting memoir of Dr. Darius Kofi Osei, Founding Chief Executive Officer of the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC). The event, marked by stirring music, insightful reflections and warm tributes, celebrated a man whose life story embodies resilience, service and unwavering determination.

By 5:00pm, the foyer of the hotel was already buzzing with activity as guests arrived to a warm reception, photography and musical selections by the Accra Youth Choir. The colourful atmosphere set the tone for a night that would blend celebration with deep reflection.

The ceremony officially opened with a prayer offered by Dr. Ivy Frances Osei, after which the Master of Ceremonies delivered a spirited welcome and introduced the Chairman for the night, distinguished public health expert Dr. Delanyo Dovlo. In his remarks, Dr. Dovlo commended Dr. Osei for documenting a life of service, noting that the book was “a needed contribution to leadership conversations in Ghana’s health sector.”

Two powerful endorsements followed—first from Professor Joslin Dogbe, and then Dr. Aaron Offei—each speaking to Dr. Osei’s humility, discipline and remarkable achievements across decades in medical administration. Their words were interspersed with a soul-lifting choral performance by the Accra Youth Choir, whose harmonies drew applause from the audience.
A major highlight of the evening was the book review delivered by Dr. Anarfi Asamoa-Baah, former Deputy Director-General of the World Health Organisation. Dr. Asamoa-Baah described Not Easily Beaten as “a story of a man who refused to surrender to adversity,” praising its depth, candour and relevance to anyone navigating leadership challenges.

The author himself, Dr. Darius Osei, received a warm ovation as he took the podium to share personal reflections on the journey behind the book. He spoke candidly about the trials, triumphs and silent battles that shaped his life—from childhood experiences to steering major health institutions. “This book is not about perfection,” he said. “It is about persistence. It is about refusing to give up when life hits hard.”
The momentum of the night reached a crescendo during the unveiling and official launching of the book by business magnate Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group, and the Former Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye. Together with the author, they pulled the ceremonial cloth to unveil the book to loud applause, flashing cameras and the triumphant sound of the choir.
The energy carried into the auction segment, led by Mr. Isaiah Offei Darko and Godwin Namboh, where guests enthusiastically purchased copies in support of the author’s work. Laughter, friendly competition and generosity marked the session, with several copies going for premium values.

In his closing remarks, Chairman Dr. Dovlo encouraged the audience to not only read the book but also to document their own journeys. A vote of thanks by Nana Ama Buadiba Osei and a closing prayer by Pastor Boakye Danquah Tabi sealed the official proceedings.
The evening concluded with vibrant networking over cocktails, photo sessions and book signing by the author. The Accra Youth Choir provided a soothing musical backdrop as guests interacted, posed for pictures and shared reflections on the night.

Not Easily Beaten, now released, promises to be more than a memoir. It is a leadership manual, a source of wisdom and an inspiring testament to how perseverance can shape destinies. With the successful launch attracting some of Ghana’s most respected figures, the book is poised to make a significant impact in the spheres of leadership, public service and personal development.
