GRIDCo hands over renovated facilities to Accra Rehabilitation Centre

The 2023/2024 National Service Personnel of Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) Ltd. have successfully completed the rehabilitation and equipping of key facilities at the Accra Rehabilitation Centre.

The extensive renovation included the refurbishment of washrooms, office spaces and the fashion centre, all aimed at enhancing the quality of life for the inmates.

The fashion centre underwent a comprehensive overhaul, with new tiling, ceiling changes, rewiring and the complete renovation of its washrooms. Additionally, the National Service Personnel donated several sewing, designing and embroidery machines to further support the centre’s vocational training programmes for inmates.

This initiative forms part of GRIDCo’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, with a focus on inclusivity and community development. Speaking to the media, Rosabeth Avio, President of the National Service Personnel at GRIDCo, emphasised the urgent need to address the challenges faced by inmates at the centre.

“We considered various programmes, but the pressing needs of the inmates required immediate attention,” Avio said. She also highlighted that the project aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 on decent work and economic growth and SDG 10, which advocates for reducing inequalities within and among countries.

The total cost of the project was estimated to be over GH¢130,000, reflecting GRIDCo’s commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable members of society.

Ruth Abanga, in charge of CSR at GRIDCo, urged other corporate organisations to inspire young people to develop a sense of service to humanity. “These young ones are the future leaders. Though they might not have enough, it is important to teach them the value of helping others, even with the little they have,” Abanga said. She also called on the centre to implement measures ensuring the long-term sustainability of the newly renovated facilities.

Dzifa Bampoh, Manager of Corporate Communications at GRIDCo, emphasised the importance of health and well-being in the company’s CSR efforts. She affirmed that renovating the washrooms for the inmates was a critical step in providing a healthy environment.

Looking ahead, GRIDCo plans to continue focusing on projects related to health, education, sanitation and water. Bampoh shared that the company had previously completed water projects in Prestea, Bolgatanga and Dodowa, all of which aimed to address pressing community needs.

With this latest initiative, GRIDCo has reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to the development and well-being of communities across Ghana.
