In a landmark initiative, a three-member team made up of Dr. Peter Agbedemnab, Dr. Moses Agebure and led by Prof. Edward Y. Baagyere secured a grant with the Government of the Spanish Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands to provide consultancy service for the establishment of a data warehouse at C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences. Courtesies to Ms. Rosa M. Druguet, a dedicated volunteer from Spain within the University’s Grants Centre, who facilitated the process.
The visionary project is aimed at transforming the university into a hub for data-driven innovation and research in the domains of Health, Agriculture and Climate. This initiative syncs appropriately with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2, 3 & 13, respectively) and the mandate of the university as a technology and applied science-driven institution.
Mottum Analytica, a leading data analytic and consulting firm based in the Canary Islands, was chosen as the consultant for the grant by the Government of the Spanish Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands. The CEO and founder, Jose Luis Delgado Davara, and César Covarrubias, Data-Driven Innovation Director at Mottum, recently undertook a working visit to the university from January 15 to 19, 2024.
During their visit, the Mottum Analytica team held an introductory meeting with University Management, including the Acting Vice-Chancellor – Prof. Samson A. Abagale, the Dean of SCIS – Prof. Edward Baagyere and other key staff members. The discussions centred on unveiling a comprehensive roadmap for the grant, which covers three differentiated areas: data warehouse facility definition, capacity-building, and vision and strategy that outlines the course of the project from 2023 to 2028. Moreover, potential areas where the two institutions could collaborate were looked at during this stakeholder engagement.
As part of the grant, a 3-day capacity-building workshop was organised to engage and educate participants on the intricacies of data-driven initiatives. José Luis Delgado Davara and César Covarrubias shared their expertise, providing valuable insights that will shape the future of the university’s data infrastructure.
In a gesture of goodwill and to strengthen the emerging partnership, Mottum Analytica generously donated some lightweight IoT devices to the university to aid students and staff to carry out data analytics. This contribution aims to enhance the institution’s research capabilities and solidify the collaboration between the university, Mottum Analytica and the respective governments involved.
The partnership between CKT-UTAS and Mottum Analytica represents a paradigm shift in the field of data-driven innovation, and underscores the commitment to advancing technological excellence. The collaborative efforts are set to propel the University into a new era of research and development, with far-reaching implications for academia, industry and the broader community.
