The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zion Hills Multimedia, Nana Osafo Kantanka, in an address at the launch, noted that his outfit hopes to be a global, ethical and sustainable media of choice, standing for excellence in the use of credible mass media to enhance the quality of human lives and serve the public interest within the framework of accuracy and efficiency.
“This dream was about 57 years ago and is birthed on the pillar of providing the world, Africa and Ghana with a distinct and sustainable communication through the print media, radio, television and the digital space,” he added.
The event was graced by distinguished personalities and dignitaries including Deputy Minister for Tourism Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey; Professor Stephen Adei, a renowned public servant and Ghanaian academic; Prof. Kofi Abotsi, a professor of constitutional and comparative law and the Dean of the UPSA Law School; James Ebo Whyte, popularly known as Uncle Ebo Whyte, a playwright, author and motivational speaker; Cynthia Prah, National Information Officer of the United Nations Information Center (UNIC); and Dr. Pastor Mensa Otabil, founder and General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC).
In their respective addresses, the dignitaries charged Zed Multimedia not to follow the status quo but endeavour to be different by being balanced, innovative and committed to professionalism and excellence.
Communications Officer at the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Cynthia Prah noted that in an era of misinformation and disinformation, Zed must strive to change the narrative and endeavour to be a reliable platform that will provide accurate and timely information that is capable of influencing sound decision making.
“Your platform should endeavour to be a trustworthy source for those in search of timely and accurate information. I urge you to disseminate credible information, where facts are double checked, in fact, triple checked. This will go a long way to curtail the rate of misinformation and dis-information,” she urged.
Similarly, Kwame Pianim, an economist and a statesman, charged Zed Multimedia to be balanced and uphold professionalism. He added it must also commit to the truth, reiterating that the media as the fourth estate of the realm is critical for checks and balances and that in any democracy, a vibrant dynamic media, committed to truth and integrity is crucial for growth.
Dr. Pastor Mensah Otabil also urged Zed Multimedia to be extremely innovative and excellent, adding that: “It is possible in an environment where everybody is going one way and for you to go the opposite way and still thrive”.
Professor Ernest Kofi Abotsi, advised the company to show leadership in the media space and not sacrifice accuracy for speed as other media houses currently do. He urged that they focus on addressing critical national issues rather than politicising every issue.
